FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAY 24, 2007 | 6:30 PM EDT

ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI – On Saturday, May 12, 2007 more than 150 parents, alumni, undergraduates, and their dates gathered to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Epsilon Beta Chapter at Lindenwood University.

The evening included dinner, an awards program, speakers, and dancing. Director of Volunteer and Leadership Initiatives Steve Latour, Central Michigan ’04, on behalf of the Grand Council presented the chapter with a resolution recognizing their efforts and celebrating their 10 years as a member of Alpha Sigma Phi.

Chapter President Glenn Flavin, Lindenwood ’04 served as the evenings emcee. Shawn Worman, Lindenwood ’93, current Grand Chapter Advisor Christopher Kyle, Lindenwood ’97, and the chapter’s Faculty Advisor Darren Marhanka, offered moving remarks that highlight the strength of the group and the path Epsilon Beta has traveled in its 10 years since becoming a chapter.

The evening closed with the swearing in of the new Chapter President Joshua Kesel, Lindenwood ’04. Nearly the entire roster of past chapter presidents were in attendance for the swearing in ceremony.

The evening commemorated the 10 years since the chapter had chartered. A petition for Colonization was submitted on May 8, 1993, by thirty-eight undergraduates led by then President Shawn Worman, Lindenwood ’93. Half the petitioners did not meet Alpha Sigma Phi’s academic performance requirements for initiation and so the petition was not approved. The group initially met in an auditorium, but was later provided a house on Watson Street by the College. Jim Reid, Tulane '68, was the colony's advisor and first GCA of the chapter.

In the fall of 1996, a second petition for chartering was submitted by 27 undergraduates. On April 4, 1997, the Epsilon Beta Chapter was installed at Lindenwood College as the 120th chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. Chad Matlick, Lindenwood ’97, was the first HSP.
